tanka étude 2 Our day of songs—night of stars

The stars are storm clouds
Circling in the clear night sky
Easier to count
Them all than see you again
Hear soft my name on your lips

Cicadas singing
Like summer rain on the roof
Rhythmic and lulling
Yet still unable to drown
Your whispered voice from my ear

Stars like rain will fall
The sound of the cicadas
Will be long silenced
Yet we’ll still have lived to share
Our day of songs—night of stars

  1. Reblogged this on Mumbling Jack and commented:
These tankas by Andrew Griffin fit visceral criteria of mine for good writing, which can be articulated most simply as, “Fuck! I wish I’d written that.” So yeah, I fucking wish I’d written these.
